Ross Tarrant Architects – A Living Laboratory

At Ross Tarrant Architects the old saying “practice what you preach” is more than just a concept, it’s a way of life. The architecture and design firm specializes in projects for the educational community (k-12 through university) and has gone to great lengths to transform their office space into a living laboratory to provide potential clients the opportunity to see their design concepts in action. The firm has found a way to combine energy efficiency measures, high efficiency water saving practices and the use of environmentally conscious materials such as cork flooring and sustainably sourced hardwoods to decrease their ecological footprint as well as utility bills.

Throughout the building these concepts are on display in the form of light/noise reducing blinds, occupancy sensors, LED lighting, light tunnels that contribute to an open design concept that encourages passive solar lighting and a collaborative work environment. The outside of the building also host multiple sustainable features including a permeable parking lot and solar array that is used to provide the hot water within the building.

In addition to providing a tangible example of sustainability in action for potential clients, these features have also helped the firm lower their bottom line and have lead to the prestigious distinction of LEED Gold and EPA ENERGY STAR Certifications recognizing these impressive achievements. As technologies and sustainable concepts continue to evolve, Ross Tarrant Architects has poised itself to keep pace providing the highest level of service to clients and a model of sustainability for the community as a whole.
