Current Sustainable Practices
Energy Efficiency
- Reduced energy consumption by 20.9% in fiscal year 2015, greatly exceeding the corporate annual goal of 1%.
- Converted lighting from fluorescent to high energy efficiency LED fixtures.
- Weekend power down policy implemented.
Waste and Recycling
- Creation of Green Team to set, manage and track new waste reduction and recycling goals and objectives.
- Reduced landfill-bound waste by 16.4% in fiscal year 2015, greatly exceeding the corporate annual goal of 5%.
- Segregation of cardboard and waste dumpsters and creation of easily identifiable signage to educate employees.
- Increased the recycling of pallets
- Addition of sustainability related tips, events, and practices into newsletter to communicate to our employees.
Future Plans
- Large scale storm water mitigation project
- Goal to improve water quality by filtering storm water runoff from a 2.5 acre parking area through a combination of various BMP’s (Best Management Practices) including:
- Bio retention area (rain garden)
- Permeable concrete pavers
- Prefabricated treatment device to remove oil, grease, sediments, and floating debris from runoff generated from our 2.5-acre asphalt parking lot.
- When implemented, the project will:
- Improve water quality of storm water discharging into Town Branch.
- Improve drainage and reduce ponding water within parking lot.
- Educate the community and employees about the benefits of improving water quality through alternative materials and methods of treating storm water.
