BROOMWAGON is a bike shop.  Our bike shop offers bicycle retail and repair service. We carry Haro BMX, MTB, and kids bikes, Kona MTB and road bikes, Del Sol Cruisers, State single speed and fixed gears. We also have Giro helmets, Giro shoes, Blackburn and Knog lights, Kryptonite locks, Brooks Saddles, Fixcraft polo frames and equipment… just to name a few among our offerings of parts and accessories. We aim to complete basic bike repairs while you wait!

BROOMWAGON is a coffee shop, beer garden, and cafe.  Our cafe offers full barista services to make any coffee or tea concoction you can dream up. Enjoy a local draft beer or craft can in our beer garden or bike shop. We serve food, smoothies, and milkshakes to eat-in or carry-out all day long. We also offer delivery by bike M-F 11a-2p!


Current Sustainable Practices

Below are the initiatives Broomwagon Bikes & Coffee has completed on the Green Check scorecard.

Sustainability Management and Green Team 

  • Holds general workshops on composting and recycling to educate employees about these procedures.
  • Develop a written Comprehensive Sustainability Plan that includes goals in these categories; Sustainability Goals, Roles & Responsibilities, Policies & Procedures, Activities & Impact, and  Timelines.
  • Designate a Sustainability Coordinator or Green Team responsible for managing sustainability initiatives.

Awareness, Education, and Outreach

  • Includes sustainability tips in a monthly newsletter.
  • Provides a sustainability information board in a common area.
  • Includes a sustainability statement and training in all new hire materials.
  • Has hosted bike swaps at their location to help increase awareness and promote bike transportation among the general public.

Energy Efficiency

  • Powers down all equipment at night, minus refrigeration units.
  • Has achieved a 76-100% replacement with LEDs.
  • The exit sign has LED lighting.
  • Established a regular filter maintenance policy for your HVAC system.
  • Has HVAC system evaluated every 2 years by a certified service provider.
  • Established a dress code that encourages employees to dress for thermal comfort.
  • Installed power strips for computers and equipment to power down during non-business hours.
  • Installed programmable thermostats and use them to adjust temperature during unoccupied hours.
  • Installed energy efficient (i.e. Energy Star) rated windows in all conditioned spaces.
  • Insulated roof to control energy loss.
  • Performed external lighting audit.
  • Daylight work spaces wherever possible.

Waste and Recycling

  • Uses reusable dishware for dine-in patrons, and paperware for carry-out items.
  • Composts materials with the assistance of Seedleaf.
  • Implements a basic recycling program.
  • Provides clearly marked recycling bins at work stations and/or in common areas.
  • Trains and requires staff responsible for cleaning to segregate waste and recyclable materials.
  • Established a policy for environmentally friendly printing such as two-sided printing, reusing copy paper, and electronic document sharing.
  • Created a landfill diversion goal.

Water Quality/Conservation

  • Installed water efficient toilets in restrooms.
  • Uses a rain barrel to harvest rain water.
  • Established a policy for proper disposal of fats, oils, and grease, distribute to staff, and post in key areas.
  • Installed outdoor ash trays to prevent cigarette litter, and make pocket ash trays available to staff who smoke.

Urban Forestry and Landscapes

  • Grows organically and uses non-chemical methods for weed and pest control.
  • Removed all invasive species from property.
  • Established an Integrated Pest Management policy to reduce use of pesticides in the landscape.


  • Established and implement a no-idling policy.
  • Installed a bike rack with adequate spaces for employees and patrons.
  • Every May, Broomwagon hosts a bike to work challenge.
  • Installed weather-protected bike storage (indoor or outdoor).


  • Broomwagon carries out various innovative activities at their establishment, including using firewood for cooking outdoors; using recycled wood for kitchen and store shelving, garden boxes and baseboards, recycled display cases and display furniture for sale items, scrap metal recycling, and recycle tires for rubber recycling.

Future Plans

  • Interested in hosting an event at their location that would be zero-waste.
  • Interested in participating in a community litter cleanup.
  • Interested in conducting a commuter transportation survey to determine monthly transportation goals and activities of employees.
  • Would like to install solar panels in the future.
