Below are the initiatives 24HR Meadowthorpe Laundromat has completed on the Green Check scorecard.

Awareness, Education, and Outreach

  • Provides knowledgeable workers during peak hours to assist customers.
  • Designated a Sustainability Coordinator responsible for managing sustainability initiatives.
  • Share sustainability tips on social media.
  • Provides a sustainability information board in a common area.
  • Includes a sustainability statement and training in all new hire materials.

Energy Efficiency

  • Replaced front windows.
  • Replaced heating system.
  • Replaced water heater and set to a maximum of 120 degrees.
  • Established a power-down policy and checklist that includes items such as shutting off lights at night.
  • Replaced 76-100% of incandescent or CFL lights with LED lights.
  • Delamped vending machines.
  • Established a policy for purchasing that requires Energy Star rated appliances and electronics.
  • Established a dress code that encourages employees to dress for thermal comfort.
  • Installed power strips for computers and equipment to power down during non-business hours.
  • Installed programmable thermostats and use them to adjust temperature during unoccupied hours.

Water Conservation/Quality

  • Replaced outdated plumbing fixtures.
  • Replaced old washers and dryers.
  • Established a policy for proper disposal of fats, oils, and grease, distribute to staff, and post in key areas.
  • Performed a stormwater pollution survey.
  • Established preventative maintenance program for sanitary sewer lateral lines on your property.
  • Posted information in restrooms about proper disposal of flushable wipes and other items.
  • Installed outdoor ash trays to prevent cigarette litter, and make pocket ash trays available to staff who smoke.

Waste Reduction and Recycling

  • Implements a basic recycling program.
  • Provides clearly marked recycling bins at work stations and/or in common areas.
  • Conducted a waste audit (within the past two years).
  • Trains and requires staff responsible for cleaning to segregate waste and recyclable materials.
  • Uses reusable mugs and dishware instead of disposable plates, cups, and utensils.
  • Established a policy for environmentally friendly printing such as two-sided printing, reusing copy paper, and electronic document sharing.

Future Plans

Meadowthorpe Laundromat is connected with the surrounding community and are interested in working with neighbors to schedule storm drain stenciling and litter cleanups for the area. They are also working on a laundry detergent cap recycling program to donate to area schools that are holding collections for park benches.
