The deadline for Green Check is approaching! Apply by Jan. 31 to join other Lexington businesses that are committed to sustainability and caring for the environment.
The City of Lexington’s Green Check program, established in 2016, recognizes and acknowledges businesses and organizations that go above and beyond to make Lexington a more sustainable place to live and work. Over sixty Fayette County entities are Green Check certified. New partners – of all types and sizes – are encouraged to apply.
Participating in the program is free and simple. Once your business is approved, a sustainability specialist will work with you to identify what you are doing well and highlight areas to improve. The specialist will help expand your business’ sustainability efforts in the areas you identify together. At the end of the process, your business or organization will be recognized at one of the four Green Check levels: member, bronze, silver, or gold. Certification is good for three years, with ongoing support available.
“The Green Check Program is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other local organizations who share a desire to implement changes that make the world a better place for generations to come,” says Erin McGuire-Thompson, Operations Manager for the Lexington Children’s Theatre, a silver level member since 2022. “The resources and guidance provided are very helpful and informative. Being Green Check certified is one more way that we can show our patrons that we care about our community and the wellbeing of everyone in our LCT Family!”
Green Check benefits include a personalized plan for how to improve your business’ sustainable practices, opportunities to connect with other Green Check businesses, and recognition via news media, print media, and social media. Green Check helps your business stand out while connecting you to a network of peers who are working to make Lexington more sustainable.
In September, Green Check businesses participate in a ceremony celebrating newly certified and long-time partners.
