The City of Lexington’s Sustainability section is holding an information session about Green Check, Lexington’s free business sustainability certification program. Businesses and organizations in our community are encouraged to apply and commit to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
A virtual question and answer session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 2 – 3 p.m. Participants will hear from current Green Check members and have a chance to ask questions about the program. Interest forms for the next round of certifications are open now through Jan. 31. The Q&A is the perfect opportunity to find out if Green Check is right for your businesses or organization. Register for the Q&A and fill out the interest form.
Green Check businesses demonstrate a commitment to improving the environment through sustainable choices and education. The Green Check program begins with a personal consultation and completion of the Green Check Sustainability Scorecard.
“It was an eye-opener for us and likely would be for any organization, from any sector, that is willing to put in the effort,” said Deborah Gona with the Cathedral of Christ the King, a newly-certified Green Check member. “The methodical trek through the sustainability scorecard not only confirmed the validity of initiatives already in place or planned across our campus, but also revealed many other ways our Cathedral parish could become even more efficient, improve resource management, and enhance awareness among staff and parishioners alike.”
You can hear from the Cathedral of Christ the King and other Green Check members at the Q&A on Jan. 14.
Green Check participants have initiated dozens of projects over the years, including installing bike racks, planting rain gardens, upgrading to energy-efficient lighting and increasing recycling and reuse. Since its launch in 2016, more than 80 businesses have participated in the Green Check program.
